As the mornings get colder and the nights draw in quicker Coach Sam Cowler offers a few tips to help us to stay motivated and keep moving…
Measure, observe and repeat:
Retesting has been core to the CrossFit methodology since its inception. We don’t do the same workouts every day, but we do revisit them over time to evaluate our progress. The CrossFit Open is a great example, as well as benchmarks like a 1 rep max, or named workouts like Grace.
Find your people:
A powerful component of the CrossFit affiliate is the ability to pull groups of people together who would otherwise never meet. The Köhler effect is a psychological phenomenon that describes how people work harder in groups than they do alone. Use this to your benefit and say hello to everyone when you arrive at class, and fist bump everyone before you leave.
Pursue excellence, but have fun doing it:
In the blind and relentless constant pursuit of excellence, don’t forget to celebrate the journey. Moving pain free, getting deeper in your squat, holding on to the wall ball for one extra rep, or hanging onto the rig for one more second are all excellent, it doesn’t have to be a new 1 rep max. Appreciate the small wins and look at how far you’ve come.
