On Sunday, we hosted our eagerly-awaited in-house throwdown. We’ve been itching to get all the members together, and between the coaches, the coffee shop, and the crowds, the atmosphere was electric!
As well as the standard podium spots, there were prizes up for grabs for best fancy dress costumes, and our lot, as usual, FULLY committed. (Some people were unrecognisable!)
This lead to numerous wardrobe malfunctions throughout the day – there was stripping, flashing, ripping, and bashing – but it made for some hilarious memories, and fantastic pictures.
After the judges briefing, the day kicked off with the CrossFit Kids and Teens throwing down in their own categories. And then it was the adults’ turn.

WOD ONE: Each member of the team to build to a heavy deadlift/clean/front squat, ladies first.
WOD TWO: A fast and sweaty one where team members rotated through stations on the minute, every minute for 12 minutes.
WOD THREE: Accumulating rower calories while chipping away on the rig, the barbell, and in synchro!
WOD FOUR: In a team of four, synchro burpees over the worm for reps – three minute window.
THE FINAL WOD: The teams in the final had to get 100 calories done on the rower and the ski erg before more synchro work and gymnastics

Teams were a mix of experienced CrossFitters and newbies, which meant teams were a mix of both relaxed and very, very nervous people! As much as the Throwdown was about getting everyone together to enjoy working out, it was an important milestone for a lot of our members.
Competing isn’t for everyone
But building confidence and being proud of your achievements is. And with such a supportive atmosphere, encouragement amongst the teams, and a bit of faith, the nerves didn’t hang around for long. Plus, it’s hard to take things too seriously when you’re dressed as a bumble bee!

CrossFit is for everyone
Colchester Fitness Centre was built because we wanted to bring back CrossFit in its purest form. It’s taken months of work and we’ve had to wait longer than we’d have liked before we could celebrate with our members, but this past weekend confirmed we’re on the right track.
A HUGE THANK YOU
We’re so grateful to all our helpers and judges on the day. Some of the competitors were nominated to keep score, while others volunteered their time to make sure the day ran smoothly. Tina and Kieran got stuck into whichever task we threw their way, and Kammi actually stepped in to fill a vacant spot in a team last minute!
