One of the most eagerly anticipated events in CrossFit DireWolf’s calendar: We had 18 teams take to the floor to take part in our third inhouse throwdown on Saturday afternoon, plus our Kids and Teens had their own competition to kick things off.
First Up: CrossFit DireWolf Kids & Teens
It was sit ups, overhead carries, rowing, and more burpees than you can shake a stick at for our Kids and Cubs! The Teens heats saw the barbell make an appearance with power cleans and front squats, and of course they had some burpees thrown in for good measure!
Congratulations goes to all our competitors, but of course a special shout out for our podium finishers: Arella Piagesti & Reuben King for the Kids, and Chloe Hearn & Toby Bryant for the Teens. Star Of The Term awards went to Elodie Camp and Harry Gillon for their work rate and attendance.
Then it was time for the Big Kids to have a go!
The first workout, “Bragging Rights”, saw our teams of four take on a four-way sprint of running and rowing varying distances. Simple but very effective, their score was for time, plus it gave the runners a chance to show off some fantastic fancy dress costumes!
On to the second workout, “Captain Phillips”, and it was time for our teams to exercise some serious synchro work with sit ups and toes to bar/knee raises before tackling the rig solo for a bar muscle up finale. A great opportunity to put into practice all the hard work our lot put into their gymnastics sessions, and a real crowd pleaser!
The extremely aptly named “Up Shit Creek” came after lunch, and called on team tactics as well as overall strength and conditioning to navigate a barbell through 10 minutes of STOH, GTOH, squat cleans, and front squats! Phew!
The final WOD, “Hold On”, called for our teams to break out into sub-teams of two to work through more synchro movements: kettle bell squats and swings for pair one, and then kettle bell swings and step-overs for pair two. As if that wasn’t enough, our teams also had to visit the Bonus WOD station at some point during the day for C2 Bike calories and Cornhole!
All For A Good Cause: In support of C-R-Y
We’re really proud of all our competitors – Kids, Cubs, Teens, and “Grown Ups” – not just for their efforts during the workouts, but also for taking on the fancy dress element with such gusto, and their kindness in volunteering to judge their fellow competitors.
Every year though, the most stand out performance at CrossFit DireWolf comes in the form of the generosity shown by our members in supporting our chosen charity: Cardiac Risk In The Young.
The reason C-R-Y means so much to us is down to our member, Chris Campbell, losing his daughter to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in 2021, and we work to raise money to finance local screening days to hopefully prevent other families having to experience such horrific trauma. This year, CFDW raised over £300 during the Throwdown.
