Excitement is mounting at the gym as we countdown to CrossFit DireWolf’s members-only inhouse competition this coming weekend. Creating the teams, planning the workouts, and sorting out (actually very cool!) prizes gets us pumped, but the anticipation around the buzz, support, and grit we’ll see on the day is also sky-high.

Why? Because of the community.

Everyone’s an athlete

CrossFitters come in all shapes and sizes, any age, and with varying degrees of experience and fitness. It doesn’t matter who they are or what they can do – they’re all CrossFit Athletes so long as they show up and put in the work. But all our members, new or otherwise, will no doubt remember walking into a CrossFit box for the first time thinking they’d be in for “just a workout”… they didn’t know there was something more to CrossFit beyond the workouts themselves.

Maybe it sounds cheesy, but each workout is an opportunity to improve. That might be specifically in terms of fitness or ability, but it might also be mentally or emotionally. Testing ourselves, pushing ourselves through discomfort, in front of others, as a group, requires a degree of exposure and an element of vulnerability – that’s how the community beyond the workouts is formed.

Our imperfections and our effort both inspires and bonds us

Whether it’s a gruelling class, or one of the beastly workouts we have planned for the comp, our community thrives because we support the effort, not just the result, of the work. Watching a fellow member bury themselves to race the time cap, or squeeze out one more rep, panicking, losing composure, but pushing none-the-less, evokes a sense of appreciation, inspiration, and respect.

Harmony amongst a pack hinges on mutual respect. And that comes from the authenticity, humility, and camaraderie we exercise in class. It’s the picking each other up when we fall that makes our culture flourish and means our bonds are lifelong.

It’s the taking part that counts

SorryNotSorry. But. Regardless of the results of this weekend’s throwdown, we all know the effort is the win (although, there is a podium, and there are prizes – did we mention they’re very cool??) and the joy is in the journey. It’s more than a bunch of good people sweating it out together, it’s a testament to the unwavering support of our community, and a celebration of our pack.
