Our community just had an AMAZING couple of weeks at the gym. From Essex Weightlifting Club’s Easter Open to CrossFit DireWolf’s Same Sex Pairs Throwdown, our members have had the opportunity to test all they’ve been working on and showcase their progress in front of a highly supportive, encouraging, and affectionate crowd. And they did so with grace, humility, and respect. It really has been a very proud time for Colchester Fitness Centre!
Our SS Pairs Throwdown was members-only. 26 pairs went head-to-head in their respective categories to tackle four workouts in a bid for a podium spot.
Workout One: “Left For Dead”
Rowing and Down Ups to start things off certainly resulted in some corpse-like poses after judges called TIME. A photo finish in both the Female Scaled and Male Rx categories got things off to a flying start!
Workout Two: “Hit & Hope”
Boxes and barbells tested the strength of our athletes, with some serious smack talk between the boys… but a 3RM hang clean can have that effect. PBs all over the place!
Workout Three: “Karen”
This one called for some tactical splitting of this classic “Girls” WOD. Hardly 10seconds between the top three Scaled Females, and all our Female Rx pairs finished within 20seconds of each other.
Workout Four: “Last Of Us”
Two scoring opportunities meant our ski ergs were absolutely ravaged, but then so were the athletes’ shoulders after all those STOH! Synchro sit ups proved a great separator for our Scaled Males.
With prizes from Yeti, NOCCO, Grenade, and (of course) The Grind, it’s no wonder the podium finishers were smiling!

Of course, the comp would’ve been rubbish without our judging team! A big thanks to the guys who donned their uniform and grabbed a clipboard to help the day run without a hitch. And to the (many many of you!) guys who came to support.
